Insolvency Statistics Second Quarter 2012

The insolvency service has reported that for the second quarter of 2012 there were 27,390 individual insolvencies in England and Wales.

This is a decrease of 10.2% from the same time period of last year, 2011.

These insolvencies were made up of 8,088 bankruptcies, 7,956 Debt Relief Orders, and 11,346 IVA’s.

These figures represent a decrease of 27.1% in the number of bankruptcies, an increase of 9.6% in DRO’s, and a decrease of 6.6% in IVA’s over the same time period in 2011.

Debt Relief Orders are now comparable to bankruptcies for the first time since they were introduced in April 2009. It shows the need for such a form of insolvency.

Bankruptcies have been lower in numbers that IVA’s for the past five (5) quarters.

So on the whole, insolvencies presently are down over where they were last year.
