I went bankrupt last year and am waiting to be discharged.  A company has offered me a new job and I'd like to take it.  Can I switch jobs if I am bankrupt?

How Long Will I Remain Bankrupt?

I was declared bankrupt on the 3rd March 2011. Since appearing in court and having one meeting with my official receiver about a week later i have had no further contact. As part of my bankruptcy terms i have been ordered to pay £100 each month for a total of 3 years.

Yourquestion:   My question is this. How long will i remain bankrupt? My understanding was that it would be for one year, but i have received nothing to acknowledge this. Do i need to contact my official receiver and obtain a copy of my bankruptcy discharge if it indeed exists?

Thank you in advance for you help.
Hi, I am soon to declare myself bankrupt. I currently live with my aunt and have had to draw up an official landlord contract. Will the official receiver be able to dispute the amount of rent I pay?
how can i get a copy of my banruptcy please, and also how do i get proof of my discharhe in may, but my main concern at the moment is i have lost my petition
I am a professional and have been working in UK all my life. I incurred a substantial debt. I moved to Singapore as I couldn't stand the creditors chasing my debt. Without my knowledge, I was made a bankrupt in UK and I just learned that the Official Assignee is looking for me to ask me to disclose my assets. I ignore the OA's request as I just been offered a good post and a good salary. If I work another 2 years, I would be able to come home to UK and pay my debt and get discharged from bankruptcy and I can then settle down at home in UK again working in my profession. If I come back now I would not be able to do that. I know you are going to say I shouldn't be working in S'pore either. But I am taking that chance as I intend to pay my debt and get discharged. Also it is good for everyone. The creditors get paid and my family can survive. If I get in touch with the OA, he will force me with a warrant of arrest even, to come home to UK forthwith to face the bankruptcy.

Yourquestion:   Is my decision to ignore the OA for now, the best solution? If not then what is the best route I should take.

If you have a serious debt problem, bankruptcy can free you from your debts within 12 months. As a solution for dealing with serious debt, bankruptcy is a last resort. Other debt solutions need to be explored first, to help determine if bankruptcy is the right debt solution for you.

Your financial affairs are put into the hands of an Official Receiver or Trustee, who will control all your assets - and if you own a property, this will also be included. These will be sold and the money used to pay as much as possible to your creditors.

There are consequences to bankruptcy which will affect your finances and work life. You may struggle to borrow money, for example, and will not be able to apply for certain jobs.

For some, bankruptcy is the right option and will put an end to pressure from creditors. Our team of experts are on hand to advise on the best solution to your debt problems - call now on 0800 002 9951.
