Will My IVA Affect My Wife's Ability To Get Credit?

Question:

I have an IVA solely in my name, but I appear as financially associated to my wife on her credit file. Our mortgage is only in my name, and we have no joint financial assets. Will this affect her ability to get credit?

Answer:

It is not supposed to affect her getting credit if the debts and IVA is just in your name, the reality of it is that it MAY have an impact on her and I'll explain:

In an IVA you are technically insolvent and as such are on the insolvency register on the government's insolvency web site.

This effects your credit and the address you reside at is used in the insolvency process.

If your wife goes to apply for credit the address can show as someone who is insolvent is living there. She may then need to explain it is not her. If it were to be an issue, she can have a notice of disassociation placed on her credit file.

Thank you for letting me help you.

Jon
