Can you be made bankrupt without knowing it? I moved from my parents home almost 9 years ago and found a letter there to my surprise from a creditor about an old debt I had completely forgotten about. The letter said they were going to petition for bankrupcy etc etc. The letter was dated November 2008. From what I remember the debt must be as old as 8 years or so. I don't own any property nor a car or have any assets........

Yes, if a creditor sends notices to the address they have of record and you have moved without informing them, it is possible they could make you bankrupt and you did not receive the notice.

You can review your credit history, and also contact the local county court where you used to live and also visit the government's insolvency web site, as they have the lists of bankrupts.

Thank you for letting me help you.
