Hi, I have 3 buy to let mortgages , 2 on houses I used to let out, but which are now empty and up for sale the 3rd is on a property I live in with my very new husband. All of these properties are in my sole name as I owned all of them before my husband and I met. He owns his own house which is also up for sale.
I have never lived there with him or contributed towards his mortgage or any other costs.
I now find that I'm struggling to pay the mortgages on my 2 empty properties and am considering declaring myself bankrupt.
From what I understand this would also involve the 3rd house (the one we live in) but could you please tell me if my new husband would be held responsible for any of my debts and whether his house would be taken into consideration just because we are now married. He has had his mortgage for 8 years and it is in his sole name.
I would be most grateful for any information you could give me.
Answer: Your husband would not be held responsible or liable for your debts if the debts are in just your name. And from what you have stated, you have never lived with him in his house, his house is fine as well. So no worries.
I hope this has answered your question.
