Can I Travel Abroad After Going Bankrupt?

Considering bankruptcy after being in an IVA for 2 years. Since being made redundant a while back, things haven't been too great.
After declaring bankrupt I really wanted to go and visit my folks abroad. They'll be more than happy to take of my expenses. And all I have to do is finance the ticket. I am expecting the trip to last around 4 months in all. Will this cause any delay in being discharged from the Bankruptcy 12 months proceeding? And will they need to contact me while I am overseas? I don't mind email communication but phone calls might be a bit awkward.
Thanks

Answer:
There are no travel restrictions whilst bankrupt, so making the trip is not an issue; depending on the cost of the flight, this may be a problem.
If the trip is to be costly, the Receiver would need to allow you to spend that much money.  If the trip is relatively inexpensive, it would not be an issue.
The trip would not delay any discharge, but if the Receiver needed to contact you, they do need the details to do this.  I cannot say why or if they would phone, but you are obligated to update them with your details.
I hope this has answered your question.

Our Services

If you have a serious debt problem, bankruptcy can free you from your debts within 12 months. As a solution for dealing with serious debt, bankruptcy is a last resort. Other debt solutions need to be explored first, to help determine if bankruptcy is the right debt solution for you.

Your financial affairs are put into the hands of an Official Receiver or Trustee, who will control all your assets - and if you own a property, this will also be included. These will be sold and the money used to pay as much as possible to your creditors.

There are consequences to bankruptcy which will affect your finances and work life. You may struggle to borrow money, for example, and will not be able to apply for certain jobs.

For some, bankruptcy is the right option and will put an end to pressure from creditors. Our team of experts are on hand to advise on the best solution to your debt problems - call now on 0800 002 9951.
