How Can I Improve My Credit After Bankruptcy?
Question:
I went bankcrupt 2 years ago was told it would last 1 year. Should I recieve any letter saying I’ve been discharged how do I find out. Recently tried to open a savings account, can being made bankcrupt (presumed discharged)prevent me from opening a savings account.
Answer:
You should receive a notice of discharge once your bankruptcy has been discharged, if not, you can contact the Official Receiver who handled your bankruptcy to request one. This information will help as well:
Once your bankruptcy has been discharged you can obtain a copy of the discharge form the court where you filed for bankruptcy. The court can charge you £60 for this discharge form.
Send copies of the discharge to the (3) three credit bureaus, Call Credit, Experian and Equifax, so they can update your credit files.
In addition, opening a savings account and showing a regular pattern of savings, then requesting a current chequing account. In time, asking for a small overdraft, £50-£100.
These small steps will help to re-establish your credit.
Thank you for letting me help you.
