I Am Being Made Bankrupt What Happens If I Cannot Attend My Court Date?

Question:

They are taking me for not returning my tax return forms for 5 years the majority of the £12,080.80 is fines for late returns

I am being made bankrupt by the inland revenue and they are wanting me to attend my hearing in london the problem is i live in leeds and can not afford the travel costs etc can i change the hearing location or even have to attend as i am not disputing anything

Answer:

Anytime someone makes you bankrupt or takes you to court it is a good idea to attend the proceedings, however if you cannot do this due to travel and/or costs you should contact the court in question and inquire with them as to what your options are.

I am unsure if, depending on what stage things are at, that they can change the court, but they may have other options for you.

If you are not disputing it and are OK with being made bankrupt, once made bankrupt, you will be contacted by the Official Receiver appointed to your bankruptcy and given some forms to complete regarding your income and expenditures.

Thank you for letting me help you.
