The number of people declaring themselves bankrupt has nearly doubled during the past year, government figures showed today.
The 1st quarter of this 2006 saw the highest number of personal insolvencies ever in the UK, with nearly 24,000 people either declaring themselves bankrupt or taking on an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) , a court-agreed repayment schedule.
